Every song has a backstory.

The Need To Be Heard started in a very human place: I was mad at my son.

Not theatrical mad. Not poetic mad. Just plain old, sitting-with-my-feelings, trying-not-to-say-the-wrong-thing mad. And somewhere in that frustration, I realized the anger was not really the center of it.

Underneath the mad was the older, quieter thing: the need to be heard.

So I did what I often do. I took the feeling out of the room where it could do damage and put it into a song instead.

That is one of the gifts of making music. A sharp moment can become something more useful. A private frustration can become a lyric. A hard conversation can become a melody. And if you stay with it long enough, the song stops being about one person or one argument and starts telling the truth about something much bigger.

We all need to be heard. Not fixed. Not corrected. Not managed. Heard.

That is where this song lives.

The Need To Be Heard is the first single from The Light That Finds Us release cycle.
